Budget laptop Computer:  these are an increasingly important tool for students, and any student would benefit greatly from having a budget laptop computer.  Budget laptops are becoming quicker and more powerful as well as being smaller and easier to carry.  They are generally not as powerful as desktop computers but they will meet all the needs of students as well as the needs of some business users.  1GB of RAM should be plenty for a solid budget laptop computer.

For this type of computer, you’d also want a processor faster than 1.5GHz. Try to find a hard-drive of no less than 80GB. Extras include a longer battery life, a suitably small and light laptop computer and for network connectivity, look for a built-in Wi-Fi and an Ethernet port.

High-End Laptop Computer: when you think of a laptop, you may picture a portable machine with less power and performance than a desktop computer. These days, however, this is not necessarily true.  You can get a laptop computer with as much storage space, speed and extras as any desktop computer.

As a portable computer, they take up less space than a desktop computer, and they’re great for anyone – among others – who wants a computer for heavy-duty applications. Anyone who wants a laptop for gaming or video editing should think about investing in a high-end laptop computer. A processor of 2GHz and at least 2GB of RAM is the minimum specification for high-end laptops.

A 250GB hard-drive or more is what you want for a high-end computer. 802.11g Wi-Fi is a great feature but many laptops are compatible with the much faster 802.11n draft 2.0.

As with any computer you’re buying, make sure there are as many Ethernet, USB and FireWire ports as you may need.
